Connected

Cords like snakes cross the ground,
Linking us to each other.
We're all connected,
But are we really?
Messages but a tick of keyboards,
Words, only letters, not voices.
Expression gone, pixels in our eyes.
What have we become?
With the rapid-fire of keys,
We speak to one another,
But is this a connection,
When there's a screen between?
Is this a connection,
When cords are always there?
What have we become,
When we can't hold a conversation,
When eye to eye becomes eye to screen,
Do we lose humanity?
A mouse in hand, moving with keys,
When you're naught but an avatar,
Is this really a connection?
When I see you, a character on my screen,
Who can you see? Not me.
Are we connected?
Are we even human anymore?
When accomplishments are pixels, patterns of code,
What have we done?
We can't be connected anymore,
When you can't see me
And I can't see you,
And even face-to-face
We can't communicate.
What have we become?
Not connected.
