Hey there, God,
If You're up there.
If You're listening.
I'm lost and confused.
I don't know where to go
Or what to do.
Can You help me?
I'm hurting.
I'm scared.
I don't understand.
The night goes on
As far as I can see.
I'm tired,
So tired.
I don't know how long I can go.
Hey there, God.
Don't You love me anymore?
Why'd you do this?
I don't understand.
Did I do something wrong?
Please tell me
Why it's so dark
And why I'm alone.
I'm scared,
I'm in pain,
And I'm praying.
Please answer soon.
Love,
Me.

Prayer

She Came
Time flew by,
The turn of the clock
Both agonizingly slow
And painfully fast.
Years passed,
Years you couldn't have,
Years you couldn't share.
But, eventually, she came.
She came, you held her,
Wrapped her up, breathed her in,
And your soul cried,
Tears of deep sorrow,
And thrilling ecstasy.
Her small body:
Too much to handle,
Not enough to satisfy,
But totally just right.
You danced, played, and sung.
With sweet happiness in your soul.
With bitter tears and tight jaw,
You said your goodbyes.
Now you mourn,
When you should rejoice,
Because she came.
Because she came,
You have hope.
She came,
And she will again find you,
Or you will find her.
Until then, carry her with you.
Be happy: she came.

Replaced
As time goes on,
We throw away our used toys
Without thinking, without wondering,
How does the toy feel?
Do they feel upset, angry, or hurt
When they are replaced?
As life goes on, we realize,
That we are the toy.
We are played with,
Loved,
And then,
In a moment,
We are replaced.
Left on a curb
Like trash,
We are unwanted,
For we've been replaced.
And we sit.
We sit in the cold,
In the rain,
In the wind.
We sit.
And we wonder
If we weren't good enough.
We wonder
If we were too big
Too small
Too loud
Too quiet
Too rough
Too gentle
Too kind
Or not kind enough.
We wonder
Why we were replaced.
Oh, it hurts.
We hurt inside.
But eventually we are picked up.
We are dusted off.
We are loved.
We are healed.
And maybe, this time,
We won't be
Replaced.
While time goes on,
We throw away our used toys.
But how do they feel
Once they know
They've been replaced?

To Me
Little child, come to me.
I see your family,
Tearing itself apart.
Little child, cry on me.
I see it breaking
Your innocent heart.
Little child, lean on me.
You tried so hard,
But then you shattered.
Little child, follow me.
I won't let you say
You never mattered.
Little child, cling to me.
I know you're hurting,
Very deep inside.
Little child, listen to me.
I'll help you learn
Why they all lied.
Little child, come to me.
I see your family,
Tearing itself apart.
Little child, cry on me.
I see it breaking
Your innocent heart.
Sadness
Sadness is a very human emotion.
It shapes who we are,
By biting, stinging,
And by, slowly, surely,
Day by day,
Month by month,
Year by year,
Eroding our core,
Until our strength wears thin.
It defines who we are,
Through our loss,
Through our pain.
And it is real.
Sadness is real.
Anyone who says otherwise
Is not human,
For sadness connects us.
We may not all find love,
Or joy,
But we all feel sadness;
Sorrow, grief, mourning, regret--
Sadness has many names.
But its almost tender fingers
Touch all of us:
Brush against every human heart.
You see it in our eyes
And in our weary souls.
