See Night

See a shadow on my wall.
A slice of light, cutting through the night.
See a star so proud and tall.
Its radiant glow putting on a show.
See a twinkle in your eye.
A bit of mischief that's not vicious.
See a sparkle in the sky,
Brilliant white, beautifully bright.

Can't Sleep

Don't you love it when you just can't sleep,
When your eyes are heavy but they just won't close?
Don't you love it in the darkness so deep,
When you can see the stars and all their different glows?

Don't you love it when you just can't sleep,
When something's on your mind that won't go away?
Don't you love the thoughts that creep
Into your mind, but just vanish 'fore the day?

Don't you love it when you just can't sleep,
When the moonbeam in your window is way too bright?
Don't you love it when your thoughts decide to leap,
In the dark, before the sun's light?

Poison Words

The
Words drip
Like poison
From your mouth and
Into the air
Where they dance
And spin.

They fall
To the earth
And touch my skin.
They burn like the
Fires of Hell
And leave
Scars.

Finality

A shadow, a darkness
A breath, a choking
A silence, a thickness
A cry, a hiss
A strangled sound
A laugh, a cackle
Hate and pain abound
A heart, so still
So broken, so cold
Shattered, in pieces
A delicate soul
A window, a breeze
A door, a light
Aching, a throb
A loneliness, so deep
A task, a challenge
The silence will creep
A child, a parent
A dead body, a lost heart.

Child

Run, child
Through the night.
Race, child
To the light.
Breathe, child
Poison air.
Blink, child
Do not stare.
Fall, child
To the earth.
Flee, child
From the dearth.

Little One

Rage, rage, little heart.
Rage, rage, against the dark.
Fight, fight, little soul.
Fight before the bell's last toll.
Close, close, child's eyes.
Close against the burning skies.
Flee, flee, little one.
Flee quickly, run and run.
Scream, scream, little breath.
Scream in to the kiss of death.
Bleed, bleed, little wound.
Bleed upon the final doom.

Vulture

(Written about the Civil War for a history class)

It tears the air.
The sound;
The scream of dying men.

It startles me
From my perch.
I take to the sky.

Looking down
Upon the field
Where Death touches the earth.

His cold hands
Brush my wings,
Ruffle my feathers.

Death’s hands
Are familiar.
A feast is nigh.

They say I bring death.
No; I follow him.
He leads me to my meals.

A flash of red
Is seen
Through the smoke.

I do not know why
They fight.
All I know is I shall soon be satisfied.

Their corpses litter
This field.
The green field painted red.

My throat aches
For the soft flesh.
I clean the dead.

It tears the air.
The sound;
The scream of dying men.

How I Wish I Could Hate You

(Written 2012)

I wish I could hate you,
It’s only too true,
That you left me broken,
My heart split in two.

Your lies about me
Take root like a tree,
Deeply anchored,
They’ll never come free.

I gave you my love,
You killed the white dove.
I gave you my heart.
You gave me a shove.

Your words are poison,
Your smile a drug;
I wish I could wipe
That stupid grin off your mug.

I gave it to you,
My heart, and now I must,
Tell you the truth; you chewed it up, spat it out,
And ground it into the dust.

The caged bird is trying to flee,
Trying to break free,
Yet it’s straining for you,
And leaving me.

Your vicious nature is hidden beneath your charm,
I know it’s under there, waiting,
Yet I tremble when you brush against my arm,
But you left me, lost and crying.

How I wish I could hate you,
You know I do,
But you must know,
There is still a part of me that won’t let you go.

His Blood

There is blood.
Blood.
On his hands.
And
He will pay.
But
The blood is
Not
My blood. If
It
Were, he might
Get
Away with it.
No,
It is hers.
Her,
My dear sister.
Her,
Who I love.
Soon.
Not quite yet.
But
Soon, the blood
Will
Not be on
His
Hands. It will
Be
On mine. And
It
Will not be
Hers.
It will be
His.
He hurt her
So
I will break
Him.

I Am Here

Grab my hand
And don't let go.
If you need me
Let me know.
If you want
A hand to take
I will be there
Don't you break.
If you need
A shoulder to cry
I will stand and
Hold you tight.
If you seek
A heart to love
I will love you
Little dove.

Good Night

Good night
Sleep tight
Don't let the past
Come back to bite.
Hello night
Farewell light
Look at the stars
They shine so bright.
